2010, begins from good.

Bees at work, shot through my window

From good to the best is a continuum and Peter F Drucker said it well,  "Knowledge has to be improved, challenged and increased constantly, or it vanishes". Thus in 2010, we look forward to adding, moderating and editing new submissions by users while constantly improving the 1200+ pages of content we have accumulated over the last year.

Currently, the content on LifeHugger is unevenly distributed with Mnemonics and Videos affilaite holding the major share. This year we hope to publish more good powerpoints at the Slideshows affiliate from our collection and  contributions of users so that visitors would find the powerpoint they came for or a close match.

The pageviews are going up and it would make the editors and all contributors happy to know their work is appreciated, useful and saving someone time. With more comments and appreciation  from our visitors (Eg. Talk page of In the Womb), we hope to see more smiles and good karma across LifeHugger in 2010.

And, as shared in the previous post the website will be made to look better and more user-friendly by shifting few things around and adding interesting strips by mid 2010. We wish to maintain the "humility" and would not introduce  dynamic elements on each page as it would raise the page load time and can affect users from many parts of the world. The pages will remain simple and light enough to load on every browser.

2010 will also be the year for new affiliates on LifeHugger.Com which we have tentatively named Connect (for wholesome learning and getting to the core of medicine) and Aarogya (which in Sanskrit means "Health" and will be a platform for health audiences when released). These are still on the drawing board and are shaping up well. It will be long till more can be said.

For now, we hope to keep improving (Kai-Zen as they say in Japan) and building LifeHugger.Com  in 2010 and attract users to LifeHugger to do what we do best, "Sharin wat we know!".

2009, looking back and ahead

We had a good run this year. 2009 was  interesting and on track as we  established our presence on the web, got more people, especially medical students from over 120 countries to visit the young website.

Amongst many facets which made LifeHugger.com noteworthy, was persistence of our team of editors and members in improving the content and adding more of it regularly all along 2009! Thanks to Neema Azeez for many cool mnemonics and Dr. Varun Babu H for sharing videos from his interesting collection!

Meanwhile, I have tried to improve the look and feel of the pages keeping them simple and easy to load. There have been suggestions from peers to make the site look more "attractive and user-friendly" which will be a priority among other new features to be unveiled in 2010. And, as planned we would be inviting sponsors from health education, health care and pharmaceutical fields to fund advancements of LifeHugger and meet the maintenance charges for 2010.

Riding on the goodwill of hundreds of daily visitors and continued support of our members we hope to move ahead, achieve more and keep "sharing what we know" in 2010 as well.  Thanks for using LifeHugger!

reads

The number of views for each page is now displayed below the main content as 'reads'. As the counting starts just today, the views the pages have received beforehand is not included. Thus, the number of reads will denote the number of page views from now. And today, we say, "let the 'count up' begin."

we love mnemonics

As the site is closing in on the 300 mnemonics milestone it is wonderful to know that we are helping thousands save time and remember the facts in medicine precisely. These amazing little packs of information have made many a topic easier to learn and recollect. Thats why each mnemonic is special and has a tag of good karma attached to it.

Many mnemonics at the Medical mnemonics affiliate may be restructured and improved till the limits of our imagination. We will do that on the go. The impression created is long lasting and definitely worth the effort. I thank all the users who have contributed mnemonics for your support. Without your inputs LifeHugger would not have been so commendable. I thank the Editors for helping shape LifeHugger.com and Neema Azeez for being truly optimistic about the Medical mnemonics affiliate.

Thank you.

funds

As of now the website receives no foreign funding. Keeping the expenses at the minimum by cutting on the 'unnecessary' and 'not so necessary'  tasks  helps us to keep a tab on the expenditure.

Any start-up website will require significant financial support for maintenance and enhancement. We have been pondering over the many possible ways to meet the expenses of running lifehugger.com and how other popular start-ups did it. There are  many popular methods around. We will be looking into those and other sponshorship options when it needs to be done.
